Save-a-Limb Fund

The Save-a-Limb Fund is a non-profit 503(c)(3) organization established in 2001 to support limb and joint preservation throughout the world.  Located in Baltimore, Maryland, Save-a-Limb Fund works closely with the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO) at Sinai Hospital to fund research for advancements in patient care and provide treatment of families with limited financial resources.  The fund also assists with travel and housing expenses, as most patients must remain in Baltimore for the duration of treatments that often last five to six months.

While the severity of each case is varied, many children continue to suffer tremendous pain and face amputation as their only solution.  In extreme cases amputation may present the best alternative, however, most situations are treatable with modern technology.  As one in 125 children are born into the world with a limb deficiency, many undergo amputation because they lack the financial resources to undergo limb saving treatment.  Even minor limb deficiencies, if left untreated, lead to the degradation of joints creating painful conditions that can make everyday tasks unbearable.

With the support of the Save-a-Limb Fund and its generous supporters RIAO continues to assist children throughout the United States and abroad through extensive international outreach missions.
